Kristina Macro attended the 90th Annual Meeting of New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA), and presented her research work titled "Progress toward a Multi-Objective Decision Support System for Integrating Green Infrastructure into Urban Planning". Kristina received second place in the PowerPoint presentation competition. Congratulations to Kristina!
The successful revitalization of urban centers depends on the consideration of both community needs and sustainability goals in planning decisions. In an effort to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) by incorporating green infrastructure (GI) into urban planning, the Buffalo Sewer Authority and University at Buffalo are collaborating to develop a new multi-objective Stormwater Management Model (SWMM) optimization tool. This presentation demonstrates how the tool can be used to minimize CSO events by optimizing GI projects. This study is funded by the University at Buffalo RENEW Institute.
