Our paper "Using Reverse-time Egg Transport Analysis for Predicting Asian Carp Spawning Grounds in the Illinois River" has been accepted for publication in Ecological Modelling.
A reverse-time particle tracking (RTPT) algorithm was implemented into Fluvial Egg Drift Simulator (FluEgg) program to back-cast the spawning location of Asian carp eggs from their collection sites.
The new version of FluEgg was coupled with an unsteady hydrodynamic model of the Illinois Waterways.
The results from the sub-samples of eggs collected in June 2015 indicate that tailwater section below the Locks and Dams in each navigation pool appear to be preferred spawning locations.
From the data analyzed, the most upstream spawning location for the June 2015 spawning period was in the upper Marseilles navigation pool, downstream of the Dresden Island L&D.
